Classes and Descriptions
Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Hip Hop classes all have a graded syllabus/curriculum to insure that teachers are all teaching the same technique in each level – and students know what they need to master in order to advance. Descriptions listed below are general – and not a complete listing of items taught.
Combination Classes
Creative Movement (3+) ~ This is a fun introductory class that will introduce students to dance. Creative movement and activities help introduce the beginning fundamentals of ballet, jazz, & tumbling. Students also play games which enhance cognitive & social development and learn classroom etiquette.
Ballet/Jazz/Tap (3-4) ~ This introductory dance class focuses on the basic dance techniques of ballet, jazz, & tap. It is a more technique based class for preschoolers. Students will learn short dances and play games that enhance cognitive & social development & prepare them for further dance training.
Ballet/Jazz (5-7), Jazz/Tap (5-7), Tap/Tumbling (5-7), Jazz/Tap/Tumbling (5-7)
This is a fun class that focuses on teaching students the basics of dance and preparing them for future training. These combination classes are divided into two or three 30 minute sections in which beginning students are introduced to the fundamentals of ballet, jazz, tap, & tumbling,.
Jazz/Tap (8-11) ~ This class is designed for dancers with little or no previous training who want an introduction to the fundamentals of dance. Class will be broken up into two sections, jazz and tap. Students will learn jazz basics such as proper stretching and alignment, as well as basic turns, jumps, & leaps. They will also concentrate on basic tap steps.
Ballet
Ballet I (8-11) ~ In this class, students will be introduced to basic ballet fundamentals, including body alignment, vocabulary, and basic positions of the feet & arms.
Ballet II (8-11) ~ This class will be centered on more intermediate dance technique. Students will move through barre, center work, & progressions which include basic turns, jumps, & leaps.
Teen Ballet I/II (12+) ~ This class will include students with no previous training as well as those with several years of experience. Students will advance with their own ability levels through intermediate barre, center work, & progressions.
Ballet III ~ Each level of ballet is structured to provide more advanced training as the student is ready. Such is the case with levels III .
Jazz
Jazz I (8-11) ~ This class is designed as an introduction to basic jazz technique, focusing on basic jazz positions, turns, jumps, & leaps. Students will also learn center and locomotor progressions as well as proper stretching techniques to enhance strength & flexibility.
Jazz II (8-11) ~ This is an intermediate jazz class designed to augment basic jazz training. It will continue basic skills learned in Jazz I, including positions, turns, jumps, & leaps, as well as elements of dance conditioning. For the serious dancer, it is strongly recommended, but not required, to take a ballet class to complement jazz training.
Teen Jazz I (12+) ~ This class will cover jazz fundamentals for the beginning jazz dancer, but will be taught at an intermediate level. While some students have no prior dance training, others will have several years of experience. Students will advance with their own ability levels through center work & progressions.
Teen Jazz II (12+) ~ This is an advanced class tailored to the serious dancer. Students will focus on dance conditioning and alignment while improving jazz technique. It is strongly recommended that Teen Jazz II students take a ballet class.
** It is strongly recommended that jazz students also take ballet to ensure the best well-rounded dance training possible.
** More advanced jazz students (14+) may audition to take Totality S/E Technique which contains 1 hour of Teen Ballet III/IV and 1 hour of Teen Jazz III/IV
Tap
Tap I/II (8-11) ~ This class with multiple ability levels will focus on tap fundamentals including basic tap steps, wings, cramp rolls, & pull backs. Students will be paired up with students of the same skill level & will progress according to their own prior training and ability.
Teen Tap I/II (12+) ~ This class with multiple ability levels will focus on tap fundamentals including basic tap steps, wings, cramp rolls, & pull backs. Students will progress according to their own prior training and ability. More advanced students will be given more advanced progressions to suit their skill levels.
Adult Tap (16+) ~ This class with multiple ability levels will focus on tap fundamentals including basic tap steps, wings, cramp rolls, & pull backs. Students will progress according to their own prior training and ability. More advanced students will be given more advanced progressions to suit their skill levels.
Hip-Hop/Break
Hip-Hop I (6-11) ~ This high energy dance class will introduce students to the basics of hip hop, including the latest hip hop trends & break dancing moves which prepare them for more advanced hip hop training. All movement will be modest & age appropriate. All music will be free of questionable lyrics.
Jr Teen Hip-Hop I/II (12+) ~ Past hip hop experience is great, but even beginners will have a blast in this fast paced, high energy dance class which introduces basic hip hop, the latest trends, & exciting break-dancing moves. Dance conditioning will be introduced to strengthen the body for more advanced hip-hip training. All movement will be modest & age appropriate. All music will be free of questionable lyrics.
Sr Teen Hip-Hop I/II (14+) ~ Designed for the high school dancer, this high energy dance class will go more in depth with hip-hop training, including the latest dance trends and break-dancing moves. This class is great for the student who just wants to come & get funky as well as the serious dancer looking to improve their hip hop skills. All movement will be modest & age appropriate. All music will be free of questionable lyrics.
Drama
Drama (5-7) ~ This fun class will engage students with basic drama games, focusing on character, emotion, & actions. It will introduce students to monologue & scene study through a variety of interactive activities which lead them to the world of acting.
Drama (8-11) ~ A great class to accompany dance and music training, this class will be an exciting way for students to channel their creative energy through a variety of drama games & activities. Students will focus on character, plot, & basic acting techniques through monologue, scene study, & dramatic improvisation.
Teen Drama (12+) ~ A great class to accompany dance and music training, this entertaining class will introduce future actors & actresses to the exciting world of drama. Students will cover the many bases of acting through monologue and scene study, as well as dramatic improvisation.
Dress Code for Classes:
A modest dress code is strictly enforced by all students and teachers at the studio. All clothing must be modest, with no spaghetti straps unless a leotard or sports bra is worn underneath. There are to be no bare midriffs, & no thong leotards. Sports bras are required ages 9+ or otherwise needed for modesty. All costumes will model these same guidelines and will be age appropriate. The following guidelines should be followed when dressing for class:
Combination Classes: Any color leotard and tights. Please no jewelry & no baggy attire. Students may wear ballet or jazz shoes to class, but must have tap shoes for tap classes. Hair must be secured off the face and neck. For classes including tumbling, please avoid using hard barrettes or clips as this may hurt the dancer when performing certain movements.
Ballet: Ballet students must wear a black leotard and pink tights and ballet shoes to class. Hair must be pulled back (off face).
Jazz Classes: Leotard and tights of any color. Jazz shoes are required. Hair must be secured off the face and neck.
Tap Classes: Leotard and tights of any color. Dance shorts may be worn over leotards. Tap shoes are required. Hair must be pulled back from face and neck.
Hip Hop Classes: Comfortable clothes to move in. Please no jeans, no skirts, & no jewelry. Students must wear white soled sneakers which are dedicated to class. (They may not wear them outside the studio on the street & may choose to store them in a locker at the studio). Hair must be secured off the face & neck.
Drama Classes: Comfortable clothes to move in. No skirts please.
Adult Classes: Comfortable dance clothes to move in. Tap shoes required for tap class. Tennis shoes for aerobics must be dedicated to class and may not be worn on the street outside the studio.
Talent Team & Talent Team Performing Troupe: Comfortable clothes to move in. Please no jeans, no skirts, & no jewelry. A modest & age appropriate costume is required for performances.
Totality 2 & Totality: For technique classes, students must wear a leotard & tights (girls). Boys should wear basketball shorts and a long T-shirt. No baggy attire, no cotton shorts (spandex or dance shorts ok), & no jewelry. Ballet, jazz and tap shoes required. NO jazz sneakers. For production classes, students must wear fitted dance clothes. NO t-shirts, no baggy attire, & no jewelry. Cotton shorts are ok if wearing a leotard underneath.
Other Classes/Services
Birthday Parties ~
Book your child’s birthday party today for an exciting celebration filled with dance, music, or drama. Each party will have a central theme which helps your child celebrate in style. All parties may include refreshments & take-home party favors. Some popular choices include:
Hip Hop party: (students will learn some basic hip hop steps and put them together to perform a short dance showcasing their new moves and individual talent)
Ballet party: (students will wear fun ballet costumes as they learn an exciting ballet dance, which they may perform to the parents when they arrive to pick up the students.)
Jazz dance party: (students will participate in an exciting jazz dance warm-up, and learn a fun dance routine they can take home & show all their friends.)
Pom & Cheer party: (students will perform an exciting pom & cheer warm-up, and learn a short cheer & dance.)
Drama party: (students will play lots of team-building and dramatic games which bring out your child’s creative and dramatic sides. It’s a great party for any age!)
Animaland party: (students will create their own stuffed animal & will play games and dance with their new friend.)
Private Lessons
Private lessons are available for voice, piano, violin, and dance. Private lessons are held weekly (rates are listed on fee schedule on page 12).
Lessons must be paid a month in advance and no credit is issued for missed classes. There will be 2 make-up lessons per semester allowed (if absences are excused – see policy sheet). These are scheduled by the teacher on a ‘make-up day’.
It is highly recommended that a parent attend private music lessons, so that they can help their child practice and get the most out of their lesson. We will have practice charts and achievement recognition for private students.
There will be 2 recitals per year for private students (November and May).
There is a bulletin board in the front lobby that will have private lesson awards and updates. Please check the board weekly.
Cancellation for private lessons requires a 30 day written notice (effective from the first of the month at least 30 days after receiving notification).
